Heroes Welcome for Kalaba and Co in Foreign Territory The TP Mazembe trio comprising Rainford Kalaba, Stophilla Sunzu and Nathan Sinkala returned to their base in Lubumbashi yesterday afternoon promising to return for national duty. After a seven-day standoff with government and FAZ, the trio returned to their base where they met TP Mazembe chairman and Katanga governor Moise Katumbi at his residence. The players were blocked from leaving the country and their passports confiscated in a bitter club-country row. Kalaba, Sunzu and Sinkala had reported ill to feature for Zambia in an international friendly against Brazil. In turn, the players were accused of allegedly exiting the country illegally with arrest warrants issued following their trip intended to carry out a medical check up on them by Zambian physicians. They missed the match against Stade Malien on Saturday which Mazembe won 1-0 to qualify to the CAF Confederations Cup final. Kalaba and co were given thunderous welcome at Kasumbalesa border on the Congolese side and were immediately met by TP Mazembe officials led by Adolphe Kabamba Mwana Bute. The players were driven to Lubumbashi in the club’s Mercedes Benz where they immediately met Katumbi and conversed their ordeal in Zambia. Kalaba, however, said the players were never incarcerated or subjected to any police search but were following an administrative procedure mounted by the Zambian authorities. Kalaba said the trio is ready for another national team call up and would gladly feature for Chipolopolo. zambiareports/2013/10/24/heroes-welcome-for-kalaba-and-co-in-foreign-territory/
