Herp-rant: So I just got my ball python last Saturday. We bought him from a local person on craigslist, who said hes 6 months old. Hes incredibly small. Theyd been feeding him one small fuzzy/hopper (I cant tell because theyre so dead and frozen - but theyre fuzzy sized but with open eyes) which they referred to as large pinkies -facepalm- (theyre black), once a week. Like I said, hes really small. Hes like, right out of the egg small. So I dont know if 1: they lied about his age, or 2: they severely underfed him over the course of the past 6 months and have stunted him. But immediately after getting him I started feeding him 2 fuzzies, one right after the other, and it doesnt even look like hes eaten anything. Today, after waiting 24 hours after he ate, I took him out of his cage, and he was super jumpy and acting hungry. I just gave him another fuzzy and he took it faster than hes ever taken food so far. He ate and swallowed it faster too. I think this snake is starving. And I dont know what to do about it. But hes definitely way underweight. He also had an eyecap when we first got him, and his tank humidity was at 30%. They were also using one single 60 watt lamp to heat his 30 gallon tank. This is kind of a heartbreaking situation. Because hes been totally neglected by an idiot teenage girl who just wanted a snake because Oh cool. But unfortunately Ive never dealt with baby ball pythons before, so I dont really know what to expect, and nothing on the internet gives any kind of standard advice on it. So Im kind of going instinctively about it. Im debating feeding him another fuzzy. He should probably be eating weanlings or larger mice by now, based on the size of his belly. This is way too long for a status... Oh well...
