Hes got a cemetery named after him in his hometown of Wortham, Texas, where hes buried. Hes no longer so well-known, but back in the early days of the blues, there was NO bigger name than Blind Lemon Jefferson. He made his name playing around central Texas, then on the streets of Dallas Deep Ellum, before heading to the blues mecca of Chicago, where he ultimately died under somewhat mysterious circumstances. Even modern-day singers mine Jeffersons songbook for blues hits to re-record. Blind Lemon Jefferson is one native Texan who absolutely deserves recognition, deserves to be remembered for what he contributed to Americas original music genre, blues.
