Het zou zomaar kunnen dat de vertaling van mijn laatste berichtje op het weblog deze keer is gemaakt door Yuri Janssen: No, it was no fun, no, we havent been able to say goodbye in a cosy way, no, the last one wasnt easy either, no, we wont become homesick despite the phenomenal treatment at department F8. And yes, the last part of the trajectory is the heaviest part, and yes, Ilse had to be transported to the department by wheelchair because she became too weak, and yes, Ilse is ill, 24 hours a day, and yes, also this last cure was hell. At this moment Ilse is laying on the couch, shes tired, shes ill, she totally fed up with it, Ilse wants rest. The past week we had to sustain a lot of grief, the sight of being ill, you cannot guard yourself against that, you cannot prepare yourself for that, its impossible to walk through that week in a happy way. Halfway of the week, on Wednesday, a checkup in the shape of an X-ray of Ilses lungs. That X-ray looked well! Thats what we all do it for, positive results, good news, no metastases. Coming week it will all become worse, the side effects will then play an even bigger role. Then Ilse will become really, really ill. We are prepared for that, we know its going to come, we know how to respond to that, we know it will be allright again after that. And after that... After that, a better time is waiting. After that, Ilse will recover. We will go on holiday at that moment. During that holiday, its time for the next step. We will switch over to mono therapy during which Ilse will undergo way lighter cures than the past 12 5-day cures. Oncologist M. considers it safe to start the next cure at our holiday address. Oncologist M. will only tell us that when hes absolutely sure that no odd things will happen during that holiday. We think and hope that the follow-up will be way shorter and easier compared to the treatments of the past 10 months. The expectation is that the extreme side effects of the past long period will belong to the past, and that a beautiful new period will commence. We expect Ilse to regain her strength, that she will be able to go to school way more, that she will regain her social life, that she will be able to regain the joy of life, that she will be able to absorb all worries of a 13 year old adolescent to the fullest. Fortunately, we still have the same Ilse. The positive, strong-willed, focussed, strong Ilse. The Ilse who is able to enjoy the many small things of life, who worries about the daily things in life, who loves life. Mentally durable, physically stronger and stronger soon. Thats our forecast, a beautiful forecast. Bit by bit the focus will be repositioning on the positive things, soon there will be space again for positive stories.
