Hey -- when the state Supreme Court demands the legislature spend $4 BILLION more on K-12 education, its got to come from somewhere. I first heard about this mini-revolt after I mentioned in a column that the state Office of Financial Management had requested that colleges list what they would get rid of to wring 15 percent from their budgets. Note that -- ALL state agencies were asked to consider how they would cut their budgets 15%, including colleges, by the Office of Financial Management. but it also wouldn’t shock me if some state universities, especially the UW, were cut loose from the public system and privatized instead. They are two-thirds of the way there already. Now thats an idea! The ramifications of McCleary continue to play out.
