Hey - so anyone want to read my readings and consider this prompt for my Urban Infrastructure class tomorrow night? I promise its mind blowing, but im sleepy! Building on our readings of notions of public and private responsibility in the first week, we will further explore how waste is understood as a social versus an individual problem. What are the particular cultural and social conditions that are created in relation to its disposal? Look for examples in the readings. What kind of social issues are articulated by each author, and who among their protagonists voices interest or concern in these issues? How do the actors in each article define the issue at stake, be it one of inequality, opportunity, contamination, etc? Do they articulate it by using concepts we are now familiar with, such as public space, private responsibility, etc? Or do they imagine new words or concepts to deal with problems of waste making and disposal?...you know, not much at all to consider. :)
