Hey All, As most of you know, Im back in school getting my Executive MBA. Im proud to be back at KSU, and education is the gift that keeps on giving, but Im facing a serious dilemma: Even after I finish the program Ill still have a sizable experience gap. All my baseball, broadcasting, and book writing is great, but employers want to see managerial skills and financial know-how. Now, between you and me, I wouldnt be able to run my own business, negotiate my own contracts, and manage my investments if I didnt have at least some of those skills, but getting them to translate into the working world is more difficult than Id like. The EMBA should help, but I want to do more. Ive decided to look for internships. Preferably with respected companies that offer competitive and compelling job skill building opportunities I can proudly showcase on a resume—other than how to grip a slider. Ive done a lot, and I know I can do a lot more, so I think an internship is the right place to start. I realize that fetching someones coffee is the last thing youd expect from a former MLB pitcher and best selling author, but Im not above it. I want to learn, I want to improve myself, and I dont want to sit around and wait for an opportunity to come when I can create one. So thats why Im here, talking to you. If you know of an internship, or have any suggestions on where to look for a good one from first hand knowledge, lay em on me. Id like my history to elevate me, not hold me back. Since you know me and what Im about, maybe you can help me network. As always, thanks for your time and support. Best, Dirk
