Hey All, Jessica here. When Im not at BB, I work at a Tokyo based short film festival, so I watch a lots of films and am always sure to keep up with film news. Recently, I heard that independent Japanese animator Takahide Hori (also known as YAMIKEN) won an award at the 36th edition of the International Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, France. This is one of the most presitigious short film festivals in the world! His film Junk Head 1 won the Best Animation Film award in the International Competition. The 30-minute stop motion animation was created almost entirely by the director alone over a period of four years, and is an amazing achievement. Japanese anime is famous the world over, with Ghibli films leading the way. However, this rather dark sci-fi film is very different from the colourful films of Hayao Miyazaki and his colleagues.
