Hey, Arcadians! Welcome to Throwback Anime Thursday! Every Thursday Ill feature one anime, OVA, or series that is over 5 years old. So lets get started! Bt X Original manga run: October 1996 - January 2000 Original anime run: April 6, 1996 - November 20 1997 Genre: Mecha, Action Plot: In the future AI has advanced to a point where they can interact with humans seamlessly. An empire has risen hidden in the Gobi Desert called the Machine Empire and they kidnap the protagonists brother, Kotaro, one of the most intelligent robotics scientist in the world to help them stop Raffaello, a Bt (pronounced beat) that has started evolving and creating a mind that seeks out to destroy humanity and give the world to the machines. Now Teppei has to set out to the Machine Empire and rescue his brother. On the way he becomes the new master of the discarded Bt X, once thought to be the most powerful Bt in the Empire. Now they have to go around this strange land fighting other Bts and eventually stop Raffaello from taking over. I LOVE this anime, it is probably on my top 10 list. The plot is engaging and the characters are extremely likable. The only thing I am very not on board with is the dubbing, but this happened 14 years ago so dubbing wasnt great on any anime. If you are going to watch do it with the English subtitles rather than the English dub. Anyway, the animation is phenomenal! This was done back in the day when EVERYTHING was hand drawn and you can really see it, from the explosions, to the smoke. You get those very stark shades and highlights, something you dont see much of anymore, but I definitely still enjoy it and wish more anime would do things like this now. I must say though, sometimes the animation is a bit weird and you get characters looking all crazy and distorted, but its not often. I guarantee you have not seen anything like this one anime and by the end of this two season, action packed, roller coaster ride you will be holding back the tears. Last time I checked all episodes are on YouTube, and they can also be found on Anilinkz. The manga and light novel are VERY hard to find translated on the internet but again, you can buy them on Amazon, or go to Reddit and try to sleuth them out from someone. I will definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to watch an obscure and awesome anime not a lot of people know about. 9/10
