Hey Chris, per our discussion earlier today, check out Coppens - TopicsExpress

Hey Chris, per our discussion earlier today, check out Coppens doing Locked Wing. His motion at 0:19 shows how when we push off of our right foot the attacker will be moved backwards instead of just standing there waiting for you to pull him down. Also, watch him step back with his left foot. He steps back to the leading/trailing edge of the NB. So I like where he stepped, but, he stepped to the RNB. The net effect is that the outward elbow cancels way to much. Leaving to much gap for the sequential flow that follows. Eliminates the outward claw. Compromises three points of contact and curtails the continued contact resistance that simplifys the complete cancellation of the attacker. Pushing back naturally and eliminating the gap is the surest way to eliminate the attackers advantage of being behind you. If the defender leaves a gap, the chance of the attacker being able to crank your right wrist up near your head is increased because you helped him. I learned Locked Wing with that left arm point to 12:00. The reason stated was that the attacker has a hold of your left elbow and that you need to jerk your arm out of his gap, and that gives you an extended left arm that is cocked for the outward elbow strike. It is easier and quicker to use an obscure elbow strike (Obscure Wing) to compress his left arm to his body. Body alignment and and back-up mass with directional harmony.. CD
