Hey Facebookers. I want to express my love and sympathy to a wonderful woman and a great friend. Lynn Wilkerson Swinford. Me and my partner were dispatched to a car accident last sunday morning. We arrived on scene at the accident in the ambulance to find Benton county sheriffs office on scene and fire department personnel there also. As I approached the accident, my friends on the FD stopped me and told me that it was my friend lynns son. This floored me. I ran to the car to see what was going on with him. One of the guys on scene was a medic, and told me they were getting him out of the car. I didnt want to know what was fixin to happen. As they got him out, I knew that God had come and carried him away. This was one of the worst things to have happened to this mama. Lynn is a dedicated mama. In my years in EMS, I have had to tell parents that news that anyone who has children never wants to hear. That there child had passed away, but to have to tell one of your close friends that. I didnt think that I could do it. To tell her that I couldnt save him. That GOD had walked with him to heaven before I even had a chance to try. But I Knew that I had to be strong and transport Wes to ashland where lynn could see him. Lynn deserved the respect of a grieving mother. One of the hardest things that morning was seeing her face. Lynn is one of the strongest women I know, but everyone has there breaking point. Her whole world is her kids and gran kids. I would like to thank the sheriff officers who worked that call. From the dispatcher to the deputies, to Mr. Arnie, the sheriff himself. Your awesome and I appreciate everything you did that morning. I would also like to thank the FD personnel who were there also. Yall did a great job. I was glad yall were there. I could feel the love and concern for lynn and Wes when I got there. Before I depart, I would like to say that most people in EMS had a calling to be in this career. We love what we do. If its going to the nursing home to transport a patient to a doctors appointment, to flying out car accident victims. We are proud to be called medics and EMTS. But we dont go through our jobs being unaffected by what happens at work. We feel guilty that we couldnt do more, we 2nd and 3rd guess ourselves. dont think we dont care that bad things happen. it affects us all more than you know. But, we are EMS. This is our calling. This is what we were destined to do. Who we are. From our volunteers who do this for no pay. To our flight medics. (I had to throw that in there for J.J. Mathis.) To our nurses and doctors who treat our patients we bring them. So, lynn, youre the strongest person I know. May God lead you and guide you. You have a guardian angel that knows you well and loves you unconditionally. To everyone, next time you see anyone in emergency services, from our sheriffs office and law enforcement to EMS and FD to flight crews to ER personnel, let them know that they are doing a great job.
