Hey Fam, Im doing a special workshop presentation @ Oregon Shakespeare Festival as part of their Midnight Project series. it will be on Sunday, November 24th @ 7pm. The entire presentation will be about 1 hour and 15 minutes max. It might be even shorter than depending on how many of the lines I forget :) There will be a brief discussion at the end of it all. Thanks Claudia for providing me the opportunity to share, play, learn and grow! Im trying to see how can either live stream it or record it an post later! This presentation will kick off the annual 16 Days of Activism Campaign. Lets intentionally engaged about how we can keep our communities safe. A bit about the presentation: Stolen Voices (Source) Stolen Voices, is a multimedia installation piece that explores the space between the participants in a violent happening and its exposure to a wider world. Over the past several years Ive watched as media co-ops the first hand telling of the events that happen to individuals in a violent happening. The victim or the perpetrators voice becomes secondary in the telling of their own stories. Only after media and well intentioned activist (individual and organizational) have exhausted their perspectives of a situation do they then turn to the subjects themselves to deny or affirm their take on things. Stolen Voices, attempts to step out of the way and let the voiceless speak for themselves. We Are Here (one man show) EXCERPTS ONLY!!! You Tube: youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8TxTIMSuYj0 WE ARE HERE is a one-man play written by poet/actor/activist Antonio David Lyons. The script consists of sixteen sketches that express the diversity of male voices specifically in the context of gender engagement and within the issue of woman and child abuse. The parts explore a variety of issues and themes from male perspectives: the politics of dating in feminist/post-feminist South Africa; concern for a female friend in an abusive situation; a father’s distress and anger over the rape of his daughter; a young father’s words of guidance to his son; the destructive nature of HIV/AIDS when love is bound by silence and shame; among others. We Are Here, was most recently staged as part of the Performing the World Conference in New York City (dir. Kelly Thomas). The play has also been performed at Space/Joburg Theatre (dir. Warona Seane), the MenEngage Africa Symposium and in workshops throughout Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. The play was developed in collaboration with director Lindiwe Matshikiza.
