Hey Guys!!! :-) My name is Amy and I own the Calabrones in Mulvane!!! What an awesome forum this is! How cool to see the community communicating and participating in the success of the town! I totally feel like one of the cool kids ;-) being accepted to the group THANK YOU for the add! I received some information that our haysville location is struggling, and was directed this afternoon, to check out this page... First, wow thank you to all of you who have posted, for letting me know whats going on. We hate totally truly absolutely hate people having a bad experience when they choose to spend their hard earned money dining with us! I/we totally respect and appreciate your patronage, and hope to grow old with you/Haysville! Second, I would like to introduce myself to you all!!!! I am Amy, and Im the owner of Mulvanes location. I have 4 boys: Michael 15 years old, William 10, Lathen 5, and a baby Micah (8mo). Yes, all 5 years apart, when the youngest goes to school I get baby fever. Im done now though 4 is enough! (Please remind me of this comment when Micah is 5, ok?) Back to my history... I was an Air Force brat raised all over this country and over sees, my mother retired out of McConnell and I decided I totally loved KS and wanted to stay here to raise my family! I got into the restaurant industry at 14 waitressing for a little restaurant here in Mulvane called Lauries Kitchen. LOVED it! Decided at the ripe ol age of 16 I wanted a corporate job, so I applied and got on at Pizza Hut in derby :-) wahoo! I worked up the ladder for 5 years while finishing HS and college, became a manager! Double wahoo! ;-) so at 21 years old I found out this little restaurant in Mulvane was for sale, and by golly I was going to purchase it! Whew let me tell ya I thought doing the performa projections business plan and getting the loan was the hard part wooah was I wrong! Being an independent business owner is nothing like corporate and I messed up non stop! Totally ran it in to the ground not understanding big stuff like taxes insurance budget scheduling training... Even basic principles, had become so hard. Oh man folks, it was bad, for a while there! Needless I went into town to work for corporate to get some more experience (then running 2 restaurants lol) after about a year of that craziness, i found out I had cancer... Hodgkins Lymphoma. My youngest was 11 months old. I completed 6months of chemo and 15 treatments of head neck and chest radiation. That was a tough time for me... I lost my business, I have volunteered on the fire department in Mulvane for 8 years at that time and became too sick to continue with that love, my sons STRUGGLED oh my, my oldest was angry he was soo so angry at me for being sick, and embarrassed... My middle couldnt look at me, my physical appearance made him literally sick he would vomit if he saw me without my bandana or dressed... I cant blame them I was so thin, my hair fell out, my skin became rashed/blotched, my fingernails and toe nails fell out... I could barely stand up let alone walk straight... it was a dark time!... But out of that dark time, came this restaurant. :-) This family focused, customer friendly facility, in business to not only provide an amazing made from scratch product but also a place to employ and build people. A place for people to gather, relax, visit, and be served. Calabrones, is the Italian word for bumblebee, how that pertains is Mary Kay Ash (I love reading that womans books!) used to say, the woman is like a bumblebee you see a bumblebee scientifically shouldnt be able to fly... Its wings are too small for the size of its body... But because the bumblebee doesnt know, it flies anyways! Ive always loved that analogy!!! So periodically (when its not 100 degrees outside you will see our mascot (a big bumblebee) jumping around on grand street there! Lol its a hoot! Usually we will send the bumblebee (Baxter is his name) out on Wednesdays... Thats our restaurants kids night. We have a lot of fun! Anyhow Im rambling! Back to the point... I am so saddened to here this hasnt been the environment you have experienced when dining-in in haysville ;-( I have tried to comment on specific posts in this page and the administrator is helping me figure out why I cant... Until then I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you all the concept behind this new restaurant in your community. Tara is your locations owner... She is a super neat lady, and I hope she gets on here soon too. She is a total sweet heart people pleaser, but as you all can tell shes struggling to build her crew and her own confidence/skill set. Until then, and forever after, I would love to hear your critiques, comments, concerns!!! If you in anyway have an even mediocre experience at with location I want to know. If you have a great or horrible experience Id LOVE to know. You can FB me, tag me, or my cell is (316)777-4041. You can text that number! :-) Again a huge thank you to Haysville, and to you all... The patrons of this amazing community! We will work hard and not stop until we get your store perfecto for you! You are appreciated!!!
