Hey Hey It’s Saturday revival: This show has had its day HAS IT? WRITE UP BY Siobhan Duck Herald Sun December 13, 2014 Siobhan Duck LOL this is no mistake this writer is no relation what so ever to PLUCKA DUCK.plucka laughs looking at this as he is the real PLUCKA DUCK Siobhan Duck IS A IMPOSTER!! NEWS WRITE UP BELOW Daryl Somers is still keen to revive Hey Hey It’s Saturday. WHY? That was the question I had to ask myself when I heard that Daryl Somers was getting out the defibrillator paddles and jolting Hey Hey It’s Saturday back to life. Again. Am I the only one who believes that Hey Hey has well and truly had its day? I find it hard to believe that TV bosses and other creative types are now so starved for inspiration that they have to keep trotting out the same old stuff over and over — and over — again. Whether they call it a reboot, a comeback or a re-imagining, movie execs, fashion designers and TV big wigs like Daryl are forever trying to find new ways to serve up the same old material, using nostalgia to lure us into swallowing it. Well I am crying foul! The red card! Enough! Earn your massive pay cheques and give us something fresh to try. In recent times I have seen some of the more hideous fashion trends of my youth worn by a new generation. Denim on denim, waistcoats and now even the dreaded bumbag have emerged from the annals of history for another tilt at making everyday folk look like retiree tourists. These trends were bad enough the first time around without arriving again a mere decade later on trendy hipsters. And it’s not just past clothing crimes which haunt us. We’ve seen Charlie’s Angels return on the big and small screens. Teen dramas like Beverly Hills 90210 and Degrassi Junior High have been revived with their teen heart-throbs looking decidedly middle-aged. And now even Twin Peaks is happening again. Thanks heavens Jennifer Aniston has had the good sense to refuse to do a Friends reunion because I am not ready to see Ross and Rachel dealing with mortgage repayments or a paunchy Joey chasing girls while pushing 50. The fact is everything has a use-by date, even old favourites. And being subjected to them again years later, and in a different social context, often serves purely to remind us why we switched off in the first place. It can also taint happy memories of them. Isn’t that what happened the last time Daryl and the gang resurrected Hey Hey? This time, however, the show is going online rather than prime time. That move may indicate a degree of self-awareness from the Somers camp that Hey Hey’s TV life may indeed be over. Instead the host promises that the new Hey Hey online will usher in a “new era of the show” showcasing old episodes as well as new material for fans. “On Facebook there’s something like 644,000 people saying, ‘When are you coming back?’ ” Daryl explained. “Online is a whole new ball game. If people embrace the website, we’ll look at doing live shows.” It’s probably pretty savvy of Somers to take Hey Hey online. After all, it was the internet which breathed new life into the show in 2010. An online petition calling for a return of Ossie, Plucka et al five years ago convinced Nine to commission two reunion specials. They were a ratings smash — red-faced racists aside — and led to the show returning for 20 episodes, but interest quickly waned. Alas, nostalgia could carry the Heysters only so far and it didn’t take long for people to start switching off. Again. But, for some reason, Daryl still feels there’s an appetite, nay a yearning, for his brand of old-school fun. It could seem delusional after last time but he may just be right. Within minutes of announcing the show’s return, the website crashed due to overwhelming demand. Is that a sign that Aussies are that eager to see Red bang his gong again? Or are people, like me, just curious to see what on earth Somers has planned now? Only time will tell. Sometimes old shows can strike a chord with a new audience. And nothing proves that better than the surprise success story of 2014 that is Family Feud. Of course the internet is a different beast. It is a place where grumpy-looking cats can become superstars. Maybe, just maybe, there’s some room in cyber space for a pink ostrich and a dude in a duck suit to shine. Hey Hey, who knows? AGAIN 650.000 FANS.SHOULD WE LISTEN AND BELIEVE THIS RUBBISH? what is great for the large amount of fans. may be hated by very few who dont know or like great Australian variety shows i truly believe the fan numbers can not be matched by the haters and the the sensationalised rubbish they write up! just to get some free advertising! they need to realise back in the last series the reunion shows many more younger people children watched loved it and now are die hard fans. a whole new generation back in 99 and prior to, many viewers who were just toddlers still remember the shows and would like it back as well they fell in love with PLUCKA DUCK & OSSIE OSTRICH & DICKIE KNEE! then toddlers i speak of are older now and want to see them again! I THINK SOMETIMES THE MEDIA HAVE RUN OUT OF NEWS TO POST TO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO THEIR SITES! SO THEY STUPIDLY NOT THINKING USE A SHOW THAT IS ON A FIRST NAME BASIS WITH AUSTRALIANS TO ATTRACT READERS! BUT IN THE LONG RUN MORE HEY HEY FANS JOIN UP AND IT BECOMES SO MUCH MORE POPULAR. GO MEDIA! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WRITE UP ABOUT THE SHOW! MY DEAR MUMS SAYING WAS NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS BUT FOR HEY HEY ITS SATURDAY FANS A RETURN IN ANY FORMAT IS FANTASTIC NEWS!! no matter how i feel about recent events nothing can deter me from loving the show in the hope it gets a TV spot or even some online new shows or segments!! i believe the more stories That are published the more the show gains more attention! i do not know of any other family live show that has always been there for the fans and battled on to give US fans what we want! DARYL has been persistent and doesnt give up! some will say why doesnt DARYL give up on it!? im sure Daryl has enough money to retire on right now. but again he is persistent and wants the fans to have what they are screaming for!! WRITE UP BY SIOBHAN DUCK IMPOSTER NO RELATION TO THE REAL PLUCKS DUCK! PLUCKA HAS BEEN AROUND A LOT LONGER THAN SHE! LOL IN 1 PART OF THE WRITE UP IT STATES Alas, nostalgia could carry the Heysters only so far and it didn’t take long for people to start switching off. Again. THERE IS NO MENTION that the show was scheduled at the wrong time as it aired at different times in other states it aired in a bad time slot and conflicted with other shows like cricket football ect! this is the only reason some of the viewers dropped off. but many would have either had friends or family tape it to watch back later or the next day ect! so some ratings would drop off as others recorded it at a different house ect!
