Hey Inside Africa fans - this week Soni Methu travels to Nairobi to explore how the success of rising Hollywood star, Lupita Nyong’o, is playing a role in Kenya’s thriving creative arts industry. Nyong’o is the first Kenyan to be nominated and to win an Academy Award for her work in “12 Years a Slave”. Methu visits the school where Nyong’o’s acting talent was discovered in drama lessons and meets a new generation of students seeking to follow in her footsteps. Methu goes to Kenya’s oldest theatre, which has been the proving ground for many of the country’s best actors, including Nyong’o. Then, moving on to the big screen, Methu discovers what Kenya is doing promote the country as a destination for movie making. Heres a sneak peak!
