Hey KIipp, John and Lou, at some point we were thinking about what our ideal 1st Beatles album would be, had Brian Epstein not messed things up by choosing the Decca audition songs himself. Id like to go further back and smack Bert Kaempfert in the head for not knowing he was working with greatness. He heard Stuart playing with the others when he visited The Top Ten. It must have been McCartney who asked (or demanded) Stu to sit out at the high school where Bert would be recording the guys, as it is rumoured that Stuart was present but did not play on those tracks. (Or maybe Stu and Bert had snuck off to another room to record Love Me Tender whilst Paul, George and John tuned their guitars?? lol ) Anyway, I would like to imagine that Bert insisted that Stuart play bass, and McCartney switch off between guitar, piano and percussion, Pete on drums, and being allowed to use his bass drum, with John and George taking turns playing guitar, mouth organ or percussion... and that Bert recorded 15 songs with the 5-piece Beatles (without Tony Sheridan) for their first album. So, what would your dream 1961 Beatles album of 15 tracks be? We get to choose any song (for our 15 tracks) from (1.) Stuarts handwritten Beatles set list (shown below ~ and we can include Love Me Tender) , from (2.) The Star Club tapes, from (3.) the Decca audition, and from (4.) the 1962 - 1963 BBC broadcasts (any early song from at least 1961 or older). (We can also use Matchbox or Peppermint Twist since we know Pete sang those live.) and (5). anything from pre-Hamburg, including Quarrymen rehearsals with Stuart. [ First ... below is Stuarts set list in case youd like to select any of these songs for your own 1961 Beatles LP.]
