Hey Lifers, this is the Byron video we showed during Catalyst on Monday: youtube/watch?v=VMToBTVw-BE. Definitely check it out and get excited! :D Time to pass on some info (bit of an essay sorry, but please read and enjoy): Q: What even is this?! A: SummerSalt is Student Lifes summer project during schoolies. We head to Byron Bay to share Jesus with the students/locals/backpackers/others, receive helpful training, pray, worship, and grow with God and with each other, etc! Q: Whens the application due? A: in ONLY 10 days, by Friday the 12th!!! The application can be found at the bottom of the Student Life Summer Projects page: studentlife.org.au/summerprojects/ (Other useful info can be also found on this page under the Summmersalt tab.) Once you hit that Apply button youll need to create an account with The Key to proceed. The app takes about one hour to complete and you can start it, save it and come back to it later if necessary. Its got a few cool questions which will help the project leaders best care for you and the team, and also help us reflect on why were going. Im sure Wallace and I will be happy to be references if you like. I believe were also required to have a Working With Childrens Check (...Rudgey, Wesley?) so please go to workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home or head to the post office if need be and fill out the WWCC application (just a submission receipt should be okay) before you submit the Byron app. Q: Why would we go to Byron? A: We head to Byron with the other Catalytic campuses, which gives us an epic opportunity to bond with those guys and with our missionaries. Q: When is it? A: Sat Nov 22 to Sat Dec 6. Yes, it starts on the very last day of exams. The missions still cool if you need to head up the day late. (Wall and I were a few days late last year but still settled in well.) Q: How would we get there? A: Unlike what Eryn said in the Byron Bay Promo 2013 video a few posts below, we wont be walking - rather, flying to Brissy or, more likely, the Gold Coast and getting a lift from there. Q: You said how much?! The cost is $1250 + airfares. Some reasons for that amount is that we stay in beach front accommodation near the action during the height of schoolies (= expensive), and we also run a few (BBQ, etc.) events to connect with the students. Due to the cost (and our low student funds) were encouraged to support raise. Dont worry - we wont actually start to raise the funds until after our applications have been submitted and accepted, and then we can look at some cool resources to help us in this quest. Q: Whats support raising? Support raising is when you write a list of family/friends/randoms to ask in partnering with your mission work in finances and/or prayer. Its epic to see how God provides and also to give our peoples a chance to hear (and be involved) with His kingdom building. Q: What should I do next? A: Please prayerfully consider coming on mission. It really is an awesome, challenging, life-changing, God-growing experience - one that will not only impact our movement here at Swinny but also our walk with Christ. Then, God willing, hit that red button (you know you want to)! If youre not 100% sure, its best to apply and then pull out later rather than desire to go later and not be able to apply. On Wednesday morning from 9:30 were hoping to have a combined Swinny Christian groups prayer meeting. On Thursday, 11:30-2 pm were having a table set up along with the giant jenga to interact with the uni for R U Ok? Day. Would be awesome to have you guys there! Also, dont forget that there are prayer meetings hosted each morning by CU, 9:30-10:30 in The George level 3.
