Hey, Manny... can you tell me a cute story about, oh, I dont - TopicsExpress

Hey, Manny... can you tell me a cute story about, oh, I dont know... going to Taco Bell after playing a concert? Something like that. Back in 2008 I was engaged to conduct the Minnesota All State Orchestra in August of that year. Among the repertoire I had the students play was Richard Wagners Ride of the Valkyries. Non-musicians know that from the many TV commercials and movie uses, especially the helicopter scene from Apocalypse Now. Before I left for last nights concert I grabbed that recording to listen to and relive some nice memories of a good week with those young musicians. After the show, I continued where I left off listening. I was hungry since I skipped dinner (Id had a late lunch and I dont like to play on a full stomach) and the only place open was Taco Bells drive-through. I turned off the CD player and placed my order with the cashier whose accent was clearly Hispanic. As soon as I placed it I resumed listening. When I got to the drive-up window, the Ride had reached the great climactic section with all the brass wailing away. The cashier was busy getting my order ready when I noticed that he was bopping and grooving to the beat of the Wagner classic. The guy was VERY into it. I was smiling to myself thinking thoughts about the power of music and all that. It truly is amazing how that particular piece exudes so much damned power. Whether its the accented first beat of the theme, the heavy-metal three quarter time, the rhythm itself, the wooshing strings, the brass weighted and anchored by the tuba... I dont know... but there isnt a person on Earth that doesnt react to it in one way or another. https://youtube/watch?v=QDwCE13nyPo
