Hey Permie Community! I need to find a couple places in CA close to the East Bay for my brother, Jonathan, to do some talks about Paradise Lot. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Read below for more info: My brother is coming to town and would love to do a Paradise Lot talk and hopefully some actual hands on work. He is here between Sept 23-Oct 1, 2014. In contributing to the book, Jonathan collaborated with his friend, author and permaculturist, Eric Toensmeier. If you are not familiar with check out the blog paradiselotblog.wordpress/ I am looking for some sites for Jonathan to talk, and possible do a hands-on design demo with some people, as well as raise a bit of funds to help pay for costs of traveling from the East Coast. Let me know if you or anyone you know may be interested. Here are a couple of the talks Jonathan offers: Format: 1 to 2 hour powerpoint presentation Growing Soil with a Food Forest Something amazing has happened to the soil at Paradise Lot, our 10-year-old edible forest garden. We’ve grown fantastic food, like persimmons, kiwis and pawpaws, and now were growing amazing soil too! In this workshop we’ll discuss the garden design, evaluate the soil test results, and share plans for growing more black gold. Or Paradise Lot: Growing an Edible Garden Oasis Jonathan Bates, owner of Food Forest Farm, will guide us through how he used permaculture design to grow over 200 species of useful and edible plants on a 1/10 acre lot. Using his backyard garden, “Paradise Lot”, he will share his mistakes and successes for creating beauty with abundance, and meeting human needs while improving ecosystem health. Bio: Jonathan has been learning, thinking and teaching ecologically for two decades. He’s co-created dozens of thriving farms and gardens in the CT River Valley. He co-founded and is a board member of the Apios Institute, a teacher at the Yestermorrow Design/Build School, and is a farmer with Nuestras Raices, Inc. Additionally he is a co-founder, and coordinator/design teacher with Permaculture FEAST.
