Hey Tree ID-ers Hello everyone around the world! We are almost - TopicsExpress

Hey Tree ID-ers Hello everyone around the world! We are almost there! We have almost reached the 1,000 members mark (hopefully by the end of this week). Brian and I started this group about a year ago (Nov.8, 2013) when the Group feature had just launched on Facebook and all we ever wanted was to learn more about trees and meet a bunch of cool people on the internet who we could learn something from. Well, a year later, and with this feature getting ever more popular on FB, we have expanded to a considerable size which we hadnt anticipated when we started out. I expected a maximum of 50 people to be honest. Not more than that. And now this! So, why did we start a group on trees in the first place, some might ask, because some of you guys know me from other groups where I identify just about any plant that is out there without fail. Well, trees were never my forte and I always felt disappointed not know how to go about identifying any of them. So, I felt that something had to be done about this uncomfortable lack of knowledge and skill. I let my creativity run wild for a split second and Tree ID it became. I can now say that I have learned so much from you guys over the last year alone and tree identification is no longer the no-go area I dreaded for so long. Its a good thing and I am grateful to each and everyone who posts pictures and to everyone who shares their in-depth knowledge with us. THANK YOU to you all. By the way, moderating a group in itself is almost like a part-time job (working for free for the Zuckerberg, obviously). Brian and I always wanted it to be a user-friendly space with a positive vibe and hence the two of us are monitoring and filtering all the entries that reach our group. Some might say Why bother?, well, I do. As most of our members are from the northern hemisphere (Europe, North America) and with winter approaching I have a feeling that we may get less requests for tree identification. Please feel free to send in any questions about trees/shrubs you feel you want to discuss with others. I will definitely post some. Last, but not least, I want to thank a bunch of people who are always on the case and have shared their expertise with us over a considerable amount of time. I believe they deserve a special mention, see below. (Please dont skin me alive if I have missed out on some. Just send a reply below.) Let it be known that I dont take anyones efforts finding answers for others for granted. Its what keeps us going. Lets keep up the community spirit. Special thanks to: Sea Al Gae Owen Clarkin Oscar Contreras Lee Rumble Carl Suk Best regards, Me :-) :-) :-) (Central London - United Kingdom)
