Hey Weim lovers, Im wondering if some of the wiser Weim owners can shed some advice! Our Weim is about 3 years old. We take her to the dog park everyday for at least 30 minutes of high-intensity exercise (usually 45-60 minutes, though). Shes generally friendly with other dogs, and she loves to be chased. She can run for hours. She gets 1.5 cups of dry food in the morning and 1.5 cups in the evening along with various dog treats for tricks and good behavior. The reason why Im posting here is because our Weim barks very loudly at people she sees walking by on the street in front of our house. Shell bark at cats and other dogs she sees too. During the day, she doesnt bark very much (if at all), but at night if she sees a roaming dog on our street, she just goes insane. The barking is loud, piercing, and often jolts everyone in the house while they sleep. Its not fun. My question is: Do any of you have this problem and how did you fix it? So far, weve tried just saying NO! loudly and firmly whenever she barks. She does respond to this, but its not very effective and it also requires too much effort to raise your voice during the middle of the night. I just purchased a dog whistle at the local pet store and am currently charging it by blowing the whistle and then giving my Weim a treat. Im hoping that I can use this whistle to get my Weim to stop barking immediately when she starts during the middle of the night. Any advice and/or comments would be highly appreciated! Thanks, Matt
