Hey Woodlands! Some of you may have been at the Commencement ceremony last Friday. Congratulations to the graduates! However, I and many others felt that the event was overshadowed by some negative comments made by a certain speaker. The mayor-elect of Mississauga spoke during the evening, and unfortunately some of her marks were negative and frankly offensive. In particular, she a) suggested that arts degrees are useless and b) mocked those working in the customer service industry (particularly Starbucks baristas). Having been extremely disappointed with her speech, I wrote a letter to her that expressed my sentiments. Students of Woodlands, if you felt the same way, whether a graduate or a member of the audience, I really really hope that you will also write or call to tell her how you feel. That way, things like this wont happen in the future. Im linking my document below. If you guys send in a letter, please share it too!
