Hey again everyone, here is a link to Pinpricks in the Velvet, the first song on our new EP. The great thing about symbols is how people can both read them and project themselves onto them at the same time. To me, The Midnight Fire has always been the abstraction of whatever it is that that stays with you when you are alone. Back in high school one of my teachers said that you are who you are when you are alone, and I never agreed with that. Surely what makes me me and you you has to do with more than that, however solitude still must have some value. Over time I came to realize that while being alone doesnt help me discover who I am it does reveal what is most important to me, specifically whatever is important to me that does not have an outlet of expression in my normal waking hours. So, to me, the midnight fire is the feeling that is not readily apparent to others but burns too bright to be hidden from yourself. Pinpricks started as a song written for a friend group of mine jokingly referred to as the young professionals, a bunch of 20 something recent college grads working in the city. I wondered how I could fit a message to them in a song that stylistically fits with this band. As with most lyrics Ive written, it started with an idea and then through improvisation and word association it began to depart from being remotely about a nine to five job. Now that pinpricks is done and put to tape it no longer resembles what it was intended to be, instead it grew from its own metaphor and is now in the most general sense about whatever burns every night. It changes, new faces, new places, new worries, but the fire is there every night. I dont define the fire in this song, because you define it, and contrary to what my high school teacher thought, it doesnt define you. -Andy https://youtube/watch?v=X8PEGuMDYWY
