Hey all! Diana here. After all the excitement at PMX I wanted - TopicsExpress

Hey all! Diana here. After all the excitement at PMX I wanted to write a little post about something very important to me. My full time job is taking care of my grandfather. Most of my friends (cosplay and non cosplay) know this and know how special he is, particularly for his age (104!) The day I returned from NanDesuKan we had to go to the hospital because he was having an emergency. At his age I really dont like to take any chances but trips to the hospital are pretty taxing on him and I knew that he would need me closer than usual for a while. I decided to do a project that would allow me to stay close to home and use mostly materials I already had available. This was the main reason I had for making my recent Odin Sphere costume. I planned to do all my hand sewing and embellishing while keeping grandpa company, listening to the radio or watching classic movies. Most of the machine work happened when hed gone to sleep or quickly so I could get back to him. As Gwendolyn began to take shape, Ali and I decided to work together and make a skit. We did most of the brainstorming in the evenings, again, after grandpa went to bed. Most of our rehearsals were at night. As much as I enjoy making my costumes, I know my grandfather takes even more pleasure in seeing my finished product. When he was younger, he manged a sweater mill that now is one of the stores we frequent in the Fabric District. We turn all the lights on in the living room so he can look over my work, touching the fabrics and examining the construction. He has been particularly fond of Gwen. I guess the point of this post is that working on this particular project and having it be awarded the way it was meant a lot to me- there were so many beautiful skits and cosplays at PMX. It is always an honor to share the stage with old friends and make new ones at the event. I also want to send a thank you out to the PMX staff, the Cosfest staff and judges, the cosplayers who made the show, and our friends Space Invader, SK Cosplay, and Han (who led my blind butt on stage in the dark). I will say tho, telling my grandpa when my friends and I win something is really special to me. He lights up and attentively listens to my stories about the event. It means a lot to me to be able to share my hobby with him and that he is so supportive of all the cosplay events I attend and the friends I cosplay with. Thanks for reading guys. See you next con! -Diana
