Hey, all. There was talk in another thread about finding hidden gems off the beaten path, so I thought I would share one. This photo is from a creek in Oakland Park, Fla., a suburb in the middle of the megalopolis of Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach. I started off from a rental place about 5 waterway miles away in neighboring Wilton Manors, spurred off into a canal that made some sharp turns and paddled against the current to end up here. Sadly, the current running through a narrow bridge just past this point defeated me. You cant tell from the photo, but this is in a residential neighborhood (there are houses on the other side of the trees). What made it really cool for me was that I grew up about a mile away and my grandparents had a house just down the street. I had no idea that this little piece of solitude in the midst of urban sprawl was there all along.
