Hey all, Things here are going well. Pretty hard day. We went - TopicsExpress

Hey all, Things here are going well. Pretty hard day. We went to the largest dump in Central America found in Guatemala City. It is a home to thousands of people who go through the garbage for food, things in their home, and mostly stuff to try to resell. We spent the morning with these peoples kids. They were amazing (700 of them). I ran around and tickled as many as I could. They love the human touch and kept coming for more. About half way through I saw a girl siting alone so I went and sat with her. She started very shy, then literally attached herself to me. She was 11 (same age as Comrie) and could speak a little English and her name, oddly enough, was an English name; Kimberly. She held my arm and walked with me for about 30 minutes. When we had to go she hugged me for a while and finally let go. Broke my heart as I wanted to take her home, especially knowing what she would be going to that night. I am continually thinking of my situation at home and projecting my family into this economic and political life. I am who I am, and I am where I am due to where I was born and the opportunities I have been given. Some would say I am blessed, I would say I am lucky and the disparity pisses me off. I feel so helpless, and I am a fixer, but their is no solution. We often think of the immediate physical needs they have: food, shelter, water...but the emotional and spiritual needs are much bigger. Our Scs students literally try to hug every kid they see, and these kids lap it up. I am so impressed with our students. We have not gone to share Christian tracts or any stuff like that (which drives me crazy, as in, I am not a fan of tracts) but we are definitely sharing love - lots of it. Our leaders have been awesome. Janice has taken on the role of quietly connecting with students in the background, Todd is Mr. Energy and both the Guatemalan kids and the Scs kids love to be around him, and Judith has been our life saver interpreter and also is an amazingly animated teacher for the young kids. I have lead and feel like a protector and am trying to connect with all the kids in my quirky way. I am feeling all of my 40 years and the other three are very quick to point out that I am an old man. By the way, my name means, womens underwear in Spanish so I he lots of laughs when they introduce me. I feel really tired at the end of every night, and it is when I miss my family the most. Leanne, thanks for this opportunity. I will try to get one more good email off before the end. Love you all, Sean Engbers
