Hey all, thanks for the add. This group was recommended to me by a guy at an auto parts store. I need some advice, because Im in way over my head. I just bought my first VW, a 1976 type 2 van with engine shrouding removed. The engine is fairly new, and has about 10k miles on it. I drove it 60mi from its previous home in Hailey, ID, to Jerome, ID. I stopped at a gas station for a few minutes. Pulling out, I stalled and died. 1 mile down the road, I stalled and died on an onramp. I couldnt get it to turn over again. I was able to get to the median, drive up trailer ramps under starter motor, then I trailered it to Ogden. I originally thought it overheated, but Ive been unable to start it again, even after more than a week sitting. Ive changed the battery and oil. Fuel level is good. Im getting replacement sparkplugs tomorrows, and Ill test/change that. Im thinking its either spark or fuel flow, and that I should troubleshoot in that order. If it overheated because of the removed shrouding, it it dead forever? I drove at about 60mph for 1 hr. Could that cause permanent damage? The engine was warmed up, but not hot before I set off. Should I not sink any more money in to it? Please help.
