Hey, can anybody make it to the Preble County Commission meeting Monday? Just a little heads up for Preble County taxpayers, two big money issues are on the taxpayers table. 1. A new maintenance building, part of a possible 3 million dollar expansion at the landfill. In private industry equipment is repaired and maintained on site. The military may use a tent in adverse weather. Personally I think the fact that we have had a landfill for years and never had any structure whatsoever, speaks volumes for NO structure. Im big on Knipco heaters and Carhardts. 2. The inevitable and long overdue consolidation of the City of Eatons dispatch with the existing Sheriffs dispatch. Financial problems exist, revenue at Eaton Municipal Court has fallen. The weigh station on I-70 has been closed by the state, Camden has its own mayors court, to name several of former disappearing revenue streams that have contributed to Eatons dispatch funding problems. Several options have been discussed, one is a 1.5 mil levy county wide, another is a joint board, creating yet another bureaucracy. Problems exist if Preble hires city dispatchers who are already at a higher pay scale, are mandated by state law to provide 2 up to 5 weeks vacation etc. What needs to happen is a simple contract between the City and the Sheriff. It is a city problem, not a county problem. The City has an income tax, gets a guaranteed portion of local government funding and is funded quite differently than an unincorporated area. I dont see why if Eaton has a problem, it shouldnt become a county problem.
