Hey everybody! Back on the 13th I mentioned that there might be some news for All-Con 2015 coming up and I can now say that it is official. In fact Cat Fiction called me while I was out at Comic Books Dallas (North Texas Comic Book Shows) today to let me know that Now Hiring Movie by writer/director Mark Cantu will be screened at All-Con 2015! This movie has a special place in my heart because it was a Texas-based production shot entirely in San Antonio, one of my favorite cities to visit. It turned out that this film gave me a great excuse to visit three times over the course of about nine or ten months. The first time I had heard of it was six days before a location shoot that Purr Kayla told us about that was looking for original super-heroes for some of its scenes. She was not going to be able to make the trip but gave me the contact info that got The Heros Hero, The Mighty Placeholder a shot at being in the film. I was off early the Friday before the shoot and left straight from work to head south and suit up for the shoot the next morning. Catherines cousins put me up for the trip (and me or both of us for later ones), making this such an easy thing to pursue. It was an amazing experience with a cast and crew that made all of us who turned out in silly costumes with sillier characters in mind feel right at home. Captain Crows Feet and the Blue Streak were especially fun to work with that day! Fast forward a few months and we are visiting Catherines cousins along with her mom and I see a Facebook post about the big finale being shot the next weekend in downtown San Antonio! I sent a note to the director lamenting that I was in town a week too early which surprisingly garnered a suggestion that if I should happen to be able to make it back I might be able to double up as an extra in a different role (the up side to having a secret identity on screen is you can play more roles). We were graciously invited to have a return stay the next week and I found myself playing one of the masked thugs that weekend. Many are the stories I could share from that and the following weekend (yep, I came back one more time to live up my thug life), but this post is already mammoth in scale. Now Hiring premiered last year with an amazing first screening in San Antonio that we got to attend with family, including Catherines cousins. Since then it has screened in San Antonio and Houston, but not yet in the DFW area. So if you ahve been wondering what Ive been on about all of these years I recommend you come out and enjoy all that All-Con has to offer (something else I never shut up about) and take in one of the screenings of this incredibly fun movie that features one of the conventions guests, Camden Toy, as its villainous bad guy! https://youtube/watch?v=FwPD5wXGBok
