Hey everyone - Im just curious, has anyone ever used a bitless bridle while waiting for dental work on their horse? This is my monster, Casey. He is 6, and I got him as a 2 year old. He was never raced, but he was pulled out of the slaughter pen as a yearling. In the 4 years Ive had him, we have had a long battle with tapeworms that wouldnt go away; followed by treatments for ulcers, and most recently one major colic this past summer caused by dehydration. On top of that, although he was broke at 4, I havent ridden him much as he has been playing catch up for the last two years, growing like a weed, once we finally got rid of the tapes. So all that to say, I was finally getting to ride my boy this past fall, and had him going beautifully when suddenly he started being funny with his mouth. So I called the vet/ equine dentist out, and sure enough one of his lower molars is cracked right down the middle, it is decaying, and 3/4 of the crown is missing. In short, the tooth has to be extracted, and I am counting down the days until our appointment to have the surgery done. In the mean time, we have been playing on the ground, lunging and what not, but I am getting itchy palms. I really want to get out on the trails and ride in the snow to help build up Caseys back up. I know he can go in a bitless because that is what he was originally broke in. So my worries are the pressure points that are used over the nose while in a bitless - The last thing I want is to cause more discomfort, so Im just wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen to them..
