Hey everyone. I feel so annoyed and frustrated when I heard about - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone. I feel so annoyed and frustrated when I heard about this factory being built. I now live in Hong Kong, however, my home is Weedons, just down the road from the Izone. In a Southerly, the wind comes straight from Izone, I would not want any 1080 in it for anyone (or thing) in the area. But it is not just the factory I am worried about. 1080 should not be used at all, especially in aerial broadcasting. The consequences of its use are not well known, or studied well enough to ensure its safety, etc etc, and I am sure you can all agree that it is a poison. Some people even suggest it is worse than cyanide. My family actually owns a small coal mine on the West Coast, North of Westport. I often visit this area, and in early August I attended a community meeting about the 1080 drops in the Kahurangi National Park. The aim for these drops was to eliminate the apparently growing rat problems in the park. The WCRC had drawn up some GIS maps showing locations for the drop, indicating that it would take up a large proportion of the park, and some surrounding areas. What was more surprising, was the council seemed to forget areas of inhabitance, including small sections of Waimangaroa, Granity and all of Millerton, Seddonville were included in the aerial drop zone. Since I am no longer in NZ, I am not sure what actually happened in this drop. But it concerns me a lot that they mistakenly marked these areas on the map. It didnt give me any confidence in the research that was going on, and for that matter if any. To thicken the plot even more, my families mine was prosecuted by WCRC for discharge of Acid Mine Drainage water for a period in 2013. Court proceedings are still going ahead, so I cant mention much, however, the facts and evidence the Council provided throughout the case have never shown that the mine had any causation to the water contamination. After fixing the problem (diverting the water into the mine treatment system and expanding this system) and constructing mitigation methods (mussel shell reactor), the prosecution still went ahead with numerous accusations from the Council. Long story short, the way they treated us in this case, was more than unfair, they abused their power of the RMA to close us down. We were always prepared to work with them to solve the issue and help the environment. So with this experience, and background knowledge, I know that this council is corrupt. They own half the company making the poison. This should not be allowed. I also realised that they are not working for the environment, in fact it seems they dont care about it at all. They are only out there to make money, such as abuse a small business and close it down, or get government funds for spreading poison around the country. This attitude is totally unacceptable and I cant believe this is happening in NZ! I wish I could help out with everything that is going on. But if I can do anything from here, please do ask.
