Hey everyone. I wanted to update my clients on my current situation. My daughter, Acacia, started rapidly losing weight a few weeks ago. She lost 13 lbs in less than a month. She was constantly thirsty. My initial thought was that it was a growth spurt. A few days went by and I got pretty concerned and took her to the doctor. They tested her urine and her ketones were sky high and thats when the doctor diagnosed her with type 1 diabetes. We took her to the ER where they determined she was in the late stages of diabetic ketoacitosis. She was extremely dehydrated and so sick her eyes were rolling back in her head. They transported us to Cabell PICU where they started fluids and insulin. She couldnt eat or drink for two days. We ended up spending Christmas in a hospital room. This was the scariest thing for me to watch my baby go through. Had I not taken her to the ER that night, she would have easily slipped into a coma and never woke up from it. Im very thankful that things worked out the way that they did. Im thankful she can work with this illness. Im very thankful it wasnt something worse. I hate that my baby is sick with a chronic illness for (hopefully not) the rest of her life. Im learning a completely new lifestyle and so far myself, husband and my family have been consumed by this diagnosis the last week. Im learning everything I can so that my daughter can have a happy, healthy life. I appreciate everyone who has kept Acacia on their mind and everyone who has helped us through this. I will resume working once I have my baby taken care of completely and I have adjusted to this new lifestyle.
