Hey everyone, I will be running in the highlander council election - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone, I will be running in the highlander council election this Monday. I’ve been playing highlander for about 3 years now and now run the Thursday night tournament. I think the format is in a pretty good place right now and no changes to the points list are currently needed. The areas I would like to focus on are ensuring the growth of the format through large tournaments like highlander for staples and increased attendance for weekly tournaments (particularly Thursday night). I would like to endorse Liam Coughlan as well as myself for your vote on Monday. We have decided to form an unofficial slate due to our discussions on the format leading us to form similar goals for the future of the format. Our platform is outlined below. If elected we will try our best to ensure the format stays diverse and not dominated by any one archtype. Our ideal format allows goblins to win one week then artifact combo the next and esper control the week after that. We believe that mind twist is an important tool for fair decks to utilize against unfair decks that attempt to win without interaction. You have to go back more than a month to find a winning list with mind twist and although it is certainly powerful we are of the opinion that it is not currently deserving of a point. It is terribly unfortunate that Monday nights are fantastically attended yet Thursday nights are so poorly attended. We recognize that it may not be possible for every councillor or player to make a Thursday night however in order for Highlander to keep two nights a week it is imperative that Thursdays are well attended. We believe that we are well suited to help solve this problem because we are both able to make Thursday nights. As council members we feel that our attendance would help encourage players to attend. Developing the format and acquiring new players is pivotal to its survival. Though the player base seems healthy now things can always change and in order to ensure the survival of the format we must grow the player base. There are two major issues with getting into Highlander. Firstly the format is very complex and unique meaning that deck design is quite difficult. Secondly the format can be quite expensive to get into due its eternal nature. We believe there are effective solutions to these issues that are easily accessible for the community. The largest of this is to make primers on budget deck lists. Its all well and good to explain the power of an esper control deck with moxen and moat to crush creature decks but this isnt necessarily accessible for everyone. However there are many decks in different colours which are cheap and powerful that would allow new players to enter the game. We would make an effort to develop these lists with help from the community and advertise them widely to potentially new players. Thanks for reading, see you all Monday!
