Hey everyone, Im working on an application for a volunteer - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone, Im working on an application for a volunteer music-teaching organization on campus and I was just thinking about my time with the KHS Band and my past leadership responsibilities. (Not that I dont think about it every waking day of course, I can assure you of that..) But I wrote this paragraph about being Drum Major - except I thought I would share it with all of you because this is about more than being Drum Major - this is about what I learned from all of you guys - my friends - fellow Band members, students, parents, and of course you cant leave out the Directors. I promise you if you get all that you can out of this experience and soak up every moment, it will never ever leave you - you will live it and you will have a beautiful life. Seniors, your moment right now is so beautiful, so share it with anyone who will hear you out and pass it on, you know? Think about how far you have come - and I can promise you that you have accomplished much more than winning state championships. Our history becomes as its greatness bleeds into the future of this organization. Anyway, heres what I wrote: Although I had a great passion for that music (if you ask me to sing it now, I can still sing the entire thing through – I will never forget it), and I will always have a great passion for the sound of a big marching band, this position [of DM] was even more involved to me than its musical responsibilities. From this position, I learned about what it’s like to be in a position of powerful leadership and still approach your peers and your higher-ups with confidence and humility, strong conviction combined with respect. I had to look people in the eye who knew more than me and tell them what to do. I also had to look at people in the eye who had no idea what they were doing and inspire them to achieve – to do something. As a Drum Major, it was important for me to establish a strong connection of love and respect because that impacted greatly the quality of the show we could put on. How can you perform a show with music and movement that conveys passion and love if no one in the ensemble truly loves one another? I had to inspire students to improve their musical abilities and practice more, engage more at rehearsals, take themselves outside of their own world of standing cold in the rain while rehearsing outside and look to create something bigger than themselves – together. Consequently, these same people who I led also inspired me to become the best version of myself. Without them, I would simply not be the person I am today - wanting to achieve, to share, to learn, fling myself at the world and simultaneously take everything it will give to me and offer everything that I have. Thats what you guys did for me - and I am so fortunate to have been able to learn from all of you. From the bottom of my heart I just want to convey on this random day, my sincere gratitude for what I have learned from you all. Thank you.
