Hey everyone!!! Today has been a much better day than we have - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone!!! Today has been a much better day than we have had in awhile!!!!! It started with a rough night for all of us because Eleanor needed bloodwork at 1230am and 330am. The antibiotic she is on has to be tailored specifically to how her body is reacting to it, so that means bloodwork three and six hours after getting it. She had to do the same thing the night before too!!! Poor monkey!!! But that didnt stop her from breaking out of her little funk she has been in he last couple of weeks!!! By this afternoon she was giving out smiles pretty consistently and was even being a little bit rascally!!! :) When Ruby and Grandma Wheeler got to the hospital, we headed down to the Bear Theatre (Eleanor and I were watching it on channel 41 and they were doing some fun experiments). So off we went and Grandma and I watched while Ruby made volcanoes in beakers and then while she helped set up little cannons using film canisters (old school camera film)!! It was so awesome watching her follow instructions and then turn to help others!!! She learned about chemical reactions and what happens when vinegar and baking soda meet... They make those film canisters explode right up to the ceiling!!!! :) Of course A. LeBoo made an appearance so Rubys afternoon was complete :) A. LeBoo also came up to visit with Eleanor after the science experiments. She is in love with him!!! It is so wonderful that he takes the time to come see us so often :) On the medical side of things, a couple of big things today... Her second JP drain from the bile duct reconstruction was removed today!! Yay!! She still has two abdominal drains but there is one less!! In regards to feeding.. Eleanor actually has been trying to eat!!! So exciting!! Her ng suction tube was taken out today and replaced by an ng feeding tube (smaller and softer) so she is still being supplemented but it is very exciting that she is showing such an interest in food and she is actually swallowing it!!! Right now she is eating the little puffs that melt in your mouth but she had 27 peach ones, 8 tomato ones, two bites of yogurt, a small piece of watermelon and a tiny bit of bread. She is also still nursing, so yay!!! Best oral intake in a long time!!!! :) As for the formula, they have calculated the volumes for an average five month old because she is so tiny. She is at about 14.5lbs right now though so we are hoping for some weight gain!! Another happy note is that one of the nurses was talking with us today and she was telling us how amazing Epic E is doing developmentally and that she hardly seems delayed at all! She told us that she has seen many children go through less than Eleanor and end up with more setbacks. She told us she seems pretty much right on par for what one year olds should be doing. Obviously, the physical component is going to be delayed (crawling, walking, etc), but we were happy to hear she is doing well developmentally :) I know it wasnt a diagnostic test that was done, but she was in watching her eat tonight and investigate toys and things and she told us that she is impressed :) Yay for better days!!!! Much love to everyone!!! ~*XoX*~ Epic E and Family!!! :)
