Hey everyone. We have an exciting few Wednesdays ahead of us. Next week, the University of Alabama Contemporary Ensemble (under the direction of Amir Zaheri) will be playing works by every composer ever. More specifically, they will be playing works by Jake Miller Smith, Max Dolensky, Webern, Stravinsky, Gubaidulina, Hindemith, Tower, Carter, and I know I am leaving off others. Should be an exciting concert. Next Wednesday, 7:30, Moody. Be there! In more personal news, The Tuscaloosa New Music Collective will be presenting two events on Wednesday, April 16th. At 8 pm, our guest, guitarist Paul Bowman, will be playing a concert of mostly new music, including the premiere of my work Prelude I: King of the Thousand-Year Trees. He will also be premiering a work by Greg Robin. Guitar playing at this level is extremely rare, so this is not an event you will want to miss. 8 pm, Moody Recital Hall. At 5:30 that same day, Paul will be playing a really laid back gig at the Druid City Brewing Company taproom. They have sponsored the event so we can afford to bring Paul down, and Id love if you could all be there to support a great local business and a great guitarist. New music is very alive and very well in Tuscaloosa right now.
