Hey, everyone....a LONG overdue status update following my darling spouse Kathyellen Staples back surgery at Ft. Belvoir (VA) last Wednesday. The operation itself (disk fusion (L-3/L-4) and realignment of her spine) was successful, but we got a real scare when they were bringing her out of anesthesia. She was in a great deal of excruciating pain and had major trouble breathing so they had to keep her in the Surgery ICU all day & night Wednesday. They finally moved her to her own room on Thursday, but the severe pain has continued off & on. Its been a really long last four days for her. Going into this weekend we had hoped shed be able to come home tomorrow (Monday) but they still havent gotten her pain completely under control (still need to use some pretty strong narcotics to help her be as comfortable as possible) so we dont know how much longer shell need to stay there. Sorry Ive been out of touch through all of this, but Ive been spending quite a bit of time with her at the hospital, and with a 45 mile drive each way, by the time i get home at night Ive pretty much had it. The stress and worry will definitely take the wind out of your sails too. Keep her in your thoughts & prayers, please? Thanks, everybody - Cheers for now...
