Hey everyone, this is a question for the educated professionals - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone, this is a question for the educated professionals out there... I graduated from Forrest in 87 and was more interested in being a wife and mother than I was in furthering my education and developing a career. Now, my children are out of the house and Ive moved back to Jacksonville which has necessitated a change in my career field. (In my previous location, my lack of a degree wasnt really an issue because I had worked my way up in an industry I worked in for 20+years and had a good reputation as an asset to any organization. However, in Jacksonville the job market is completely different and that industry doesnt have much of a presence here.) So - Im looking for a job and just about everyone requires a Bachelors Degree, which I dont have because I had children instead. :) Anyway - What I want to do is find a job, get settled in a routine and then go back to school to earn my degree. Im thinking that an online school is going to be the most effective use of my time. This is where my question comes in... As professionals - do you really pay a lot of attention to WHERE one went to school (if its not ivy league or prestigious in some way, does it really matter)? Can any of you give me advice on where to look? (Im thinking a Business Management degree of some sort - maybe with a focus on Marketing and a Human Resources minor or a focus on Health Care Administration and Management, dont exactly know yet -but some sort of business degree would be the most versatile and Im not at all interested in computer or personal health care degrees like nursing, x-ray tech, etc... Nothing where Im going to see anything gross like bones sticking out or see bodily fluids, use needles, yada, yada, yada ) What do employers/hiring managers look for in a degree, what fields are growing, are there any programs available in the Jax area or nationwide that offer career counseling/direction or that sort of thing? Dont want to go to the colleges for info because once I started looking into it - my phone started ringing off the hook with colleges trying to enroll me NOW. LOL I need guidance and advice from those in the know willing to help just to help. Any info, advice, guidance from fellow Rebels will be GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you!! :) (also - of course, if you know of anyone hiring in the Jax area, let me know that too!! - Been looking for about 2 or 3 months now and its tough out there - much tougher than the Tampa area sheesh!) :)
