Hey folks- Steph here with a friendly reminder to mind your carbohydrate intake. In the fitness world we are often told to eat low amounts of carbohydrates because the sugars in them are known to lead to insulin resistance and ultimately Type 2 Diabetes. Heres an quick video from a Robb Wolf talk a couple of years ago that explains it well. https://youtube/watch?v=jwTF0_h5BFU I made a huge mistake about two years ago when I pulled all the breads, pastas, etc. out of my diet because I didnt replace them with enough good quality starchy vegetables! Did you also know that too few carbohydrates can be a bad thing, too? If you dont have enough clean carbohydrates in your diet your body wont be told to secrete as much insulin (good and bad can come from this). For my fellow CFWHers and Bootcampers this can be an issue for a few of reasons. Insulin: 1. Reduces protein breakdown of the muscle 2. Increases protein synthesis when amino acids are available 3. Increases the rate of muscle tissue growth over time 4. Increases amino acid transport Take home message?? Find the right carbohydrate balance for YOU! Not everyone needs two sweet potatoes and night, but you likely need some form of good carbs daily. Dont let the good quality carbohydrates fall off your plate. Has anyone found a balance that works for them--feel free to share in the comment section so that others can learn too! Heres a great guide made by Diane Sanfilippo to help you get a sense of how many grams of carbohydrates are in common paleo-friendly foods. balancedbites/PDFs/BOOK_EXTRAS/PracticalPaleo_GuidetoPaleoCarbs.pdf?2c7395
