Hey folks. "...The other day I watched the news. The other day I - TopicsExpress

Hey folks. "...The other day I watched the news. The other day I saw thousands of dead bodies from a conflict halfway around the world. The other day I went on with my life without the previous sentence connecting to my conscience; I was numb to the world. In the last few years I have noticed a change with myself. It seemed that something was just “switched-off” in my soul; death, gore, real life pain meant nothing to me. Honestly, a colder side had been freed and it wasn’t until I was alone, restlessly lying bed one night that I realized this was not right. Over the next few years I fought against my cold “shadow” but I felt very little progress being made. Then I saw this video from a church online. The speaker talked about how he felt numbed from God. The connection is obvious; I felt the same way. Unfortunately, it seems that our society as a whole has become this way. Maybe it’s because most of us have grown up with war in our lives, maybe it’s something deeper. I’m afraid it’s because we’ve become lazy as a society. I believe we, myself included, have become lazy socially, spiritually, and morally. When is the last time you started a conversation with a stranger or chose to sleep in instead of going to church? Or even purposely going out of your way to avoid someone who means well, even a family member. I sure have. The one thing I learned from college is that starting a conversation is tough but rewarding. For the last 23 years of my life, I have been too quiet, socially as well as spiritually. By simply saying “hey” to someone is so simple but so powerful. It’s amazing to realize how many people simply look at their feet when they walk by people on the sidewalk. Why have we as a people become so remote? This example is exactly like my numbness. We, as a people, have become numb to God as well as each other. To me personally, I feel like I just slapped God in the face. He has gone through so much for us and we can’t even try to be friendly to our neighbors or attempt to feel remorse. I am far from perfect, I’ll be the first to admit that..." I hope this helps somebody, it Schurr helped me. Food for thought.
