Hey friends and fellow functional fitness enthusiasts! If you do NOT have plans this Saturday morning I am hosting one of Utahs Largest ( and most beautiful ) cycling events down in Utah County. The ride is called theGLMR. It is ride that I founded 6 years ago in memory of my father, who passed away in late 2008. Known as the Gary Ludlow Memorial Ride, this event is a non-profit fundraiser and all proceeds go to the National Awareness of Mental Illness. Our first year we started with 30 riders. This year we are well over 200 registered riders and 50+ volunteers. theglmr/register/ My pops was a professional cyclist when I was a youngster. He had some good spills on the road, but a few years before his death he had a pretty traumatic brain injury from a pretty bad crash. This resulted in a loss of being able to ride like he could before, loss of coordination, and in general his own self worth. He gained some weight, and lost some of his confidence and simply just couldnt do what he loved. In December of 2008, he died from suicide. The question I ask of everyone, if you knew of someone that was depressed, sad, had some sort of mental disorder that could be cured, or even someone that contemplated suicide, WOULD YOU HELP THEM? Some may say this is a sensitive subject and or may be taboo to discuss, but it is REAL just like any other disease. 1 in 4 people suffer from diagnosable mental disorders and the first thing they are encouraged to do is fitness. If only I had known about CrossFit then!! If only I had known that my stubborn father needed help. There is a way to help and that is by spreading awareness to the community. That is why I established this ride and to support the Nami Utah Chapter. Please, if you or someone you know would be interested in participating, Register Now at theGLMR. If you cannot make it, Donate today. If you know of anyone that has a form a mental illness, share this and post it to your wall. Thank you all, Zach Ludlow
