Hey, gang! Are we excited yet? This year at JordanCon, I’m going to be doing a little fund-raiser for Mayo involving a Tylin costume, the Mat cosplayers and a lot of pink ribbons. I already know this crowd is generally willing to help out with any shenanigans I can dream up, but I need your help with something specific right now. Ebou-Dari Widow Extraordinaire Leslie Annis will be helping me sell lengths of pink ribbon. Lots and lots of ribbons. And when you buy one (or four), you’ll tie it on to the Matrim Cauthon of your choice. When the Dance Party rolls around, the Mat with the greatest number of pink ribbons wins the prize! And Mayo gets the proceeds. But what do we call these shenanigans? You know, so we can announce them in public? There’s a reason why the photo below is my favorite photo –ever – from any JordanCon (actually, three reasons). Now, you can look at this in one of two ways. Either this idea is my excuse to raise more funds for Mayo by doing something we’d be doing anyway, OR it’s an attempt to put the new harassment policy through its paces. Maybe it’s a “little bit of column A, little bit of column B” sort of deal? Anyway, the way you can help us out RIGHT NOW is to help me come up with a name for this event. And, of course, once we get to JordanCon, either (1) dress up as Mat, or (2) buy a lot of ribbons. (Donations of pink ribbon are accepted too, of course, but I’d love for us to run out.) Taking a cue from kid’s birthday party games, I’d thought about calling this game “Pinning the Ribbon on the Duckling,” but I’m pretty sure that whole notion of pins would go awry pretty quickly. Which is why we’ll be tying them up instead, um, I meant tying the ribbons on. :-) Post your suggestions here. The person who posts the winning suggestion will get some special swag at JordanCon!
