Hey, gang! Working on formatting the event schedule page, but here are some class highlights to whet your appetite over the next day or so: Hans Heim will be teaching a class on the langes messer, with an emphasis on dynamic drilling of the techniques, towards being able to effectively spar and fight using correct messer skills. Dennis Ljungqvist and Carl Ryrberg will hit different aspects of longsword fencing. Considering the amazing consistency of their personal and national track records, anyone who is not Swedish will be able to take away valuable lessons. :) Billy Atwood will be teaching a class on Filipino stick fighting. Angles, footwork, body mechanics -- how to enter into and successfully come out of a stick fight. He is a solid, sensible instructor and considerate but unrelenting fighter. And furthest afield but possessed of really fluid, controlled movement and body mechanics, DaMon Stith will be sharing his knowledge of Sahelian sword technique and Egyptian stick and shield fighting (all historical African martial arts). (I have trained and fought with both of these non-HEMA gentlemen, and can reassure you that their mindset towards training, the objectives of the fight, and study / research put all of us on the same level of intent and, if anything I aspire to building our HEMA community up to their level of applied skill -- though youll never hear it from them that theyre better than anyone.)
