Hey guys! Bugsy here with another competitive discussion post! Since I hadnt seen any suggestions on the previous post, I decided to pick another favorite of mine, Sharpedo! This post will more or less be focused on Mega Sharpedo, but will still feature normal sharpedo in case you already have the mega slot on your team or dont like Mega Sharpedo. . Sharpedos stats: Type: Water/Dark Ability: Rough Skin Hidden Ability: Speed Boost HP: 70 Attack: 120 Defense: 40 Special Attack: 95 Special Defense: 40 Speed: 95 . Mega Sharpedos stats: Type: Water/Dark Ability: Strong Jaw Attack: 140 Defense: 70 Special Attack: 110 Special Defense: 65 Speed: 105 . Sharpedo is a very powerful pokemon with the great ability Speed Boost. Normally, Sharpedo has passable speed, with the need of a scarf to be really effective, meaning that Speed Boost is an amazing ability for it, as it allows sharpedo to run Protect and be able to outspeed the majority of pokemon but still be able to hit hard with the ability to run Life Orb. Sharpedo has defenses like wet paper though. If it cant ensure a KO, try not to use it and save it to sweep late game, as thats what its best at doing. When using mega Sharpedo, protect for at least a turn, then mega evolve. . Sharpedo @ Life Orb Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Protect - Aqua Jet - Crunch - Waterfall This set is the main set that I used before ORAS came out. Aqua jet allows Sharpedo to pretty much mess up Talonflame if it has taken any damage, as it does up to 92.9% on the standard talonflame set. In order to outspeed Talonflame, Sharpedo only needs one turn of speed boost. This set really lacks coverage though, sadly. It mainly is used to counter Talonflame in OU and hit hard with waterfall. Overall, this is still a solid set, but might not be the best overall. . Sharpedo @ Life Orb Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 252 Atk / 128 SpA / 128 Spe Naughty Nature - Protect - Crunch - Waterfall - Ice Beam This set is a mixed set designed to have good coverage but still be able to work around physical walls. Even though it isnt fully invested in speed, this set still allows it to outspeed a lot of pokemon just after one boost. Crunch and waterfall are there to hit hard with STAB while Ice Beam is coverage and allows it to work around physical walls better than a purely physical set. . Sharpedo @ Life Orb Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Modest Nature - Protect - Surf/Scald - Dark Pulse - Ice Beam While Sharpedo doesnt really have all the greatest Special Attack, its still usable. Life Orb is almost always the item of choice on any non-mega sharpedo set, so sorry if this gets very redundant. This set focuses on tricking the enemy into sending int heir physical wall but hitting it with a hard hitting Life Orb boosted Special Attack. Scald could be preferred over Surf on this set, but I prefer surf as a burn with probably not help Sharpedo live much damage, saying it even were to get the burn. Special LO Sharpedo is much better than Special MegaSharpedo, as the Life Orb boosts Sharpedos special attack way more than a Mega Sharpedo would have it. . Sharpedo @ Life Orb Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Protect - Destiny Bond - Crunch - Waterfall This is the last non-Mega Sharpedo set Ill be speaking of in this post. This set allows Sharpedo to get around two KOs at least with speed boosted Destiny Bond. This set still gets demolished by mach punch, though, unless Destiny Bond was used on the turn before the mach punch pokemon came in. This set is a more disposable set than the other sets are, and can be brought in more flexibly than the other sets. . Sharpedo @ Sharpedonite Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Protect - Crunch - Waterfall - Ice Fang/Poison Fang The first Mega Sharpedo set is probably one of the more common sets, giving power from the newly acquired Strong Jaw ability. Crunch hits with a 2.25x boost overall from the combination of Strong Jaw and STAB, giving it a monstrous base power of 180 mixed with its amazing 140 Attack stat. Waterfall might not hit as hard as it would without life orb, but the power from Crunch is the main reason to use Mega Sharpedo along with the boost for Ice Fang, as coverage. This set gets walled hard by azumarill in OU though. If you run Poison Fang instead of Ice Fang, you can hit Azumarill, but other mons will stop you. . Sharpedo @ Sharpedonite Ability: Speed Boost EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Protect - Crunch - Waterfall - Destiny Bond This is our last set for today :P. This set features a similar principle of the above destiny bond set, but still allows it to wreck teams with Crunch and the slightly added bulk. This set might not necessarily be worth the mega slot, so if you have another mon on the team that can be a mega, its probably better without the mega stone, as only a few extra perks about this set rather than the other set. . I hope everyone enjoyed this explanation, it took me a good hour to an hour and a half to type up. Remember to comment a pokemon that you really want to get an explanation over in the comments! •Bugsy
