Hey, guys. For those who dont know me - I was a freshman beekeeper this year, and I could use some help. I am afraid my girls have already succumbed to the winter weather. :( Its only been below freezing for a few weeks, and I did not harvest any honey this year, so I know they didnt starve. But when I checked on them today, there were several hundred dead bees blocking the entrance. :( I scooped out as many as I could to clear the opening and let the air circulate, but didnt open up the hive. I also would have expected some of the girls to be out and about today, as it was in the mid-50s and sunny. What do you all think? Is there hope that they might still be alive in there? How do I check for sure without opening the hive? Should I harvest whatever honey might remain?
