Hey guys. I am a senior at Evergreen High School, and I want to bring this to the attention of the community. Tonight, the school board is voting to try to ban AP US History from the Jeffco curriculum. The school board does not want this course around anymore because they believe it is unpatriotic to teach kids about the negative things our country has done (Slavery, treatment of native Americans, and the like) and they want to replace it with a version that is less subversive. They basically just want to keep information from the kids as much as possible. This is blatant censorship of education, and it opens the door for these people to ban whatever science or social studies courses they dont agree with. Jefferson County teachers have already given a vote of no confidence in the president of the school board because they believe he is incompetent and out of touch. Many of my classmates are equally outraged because AP US History is one of the best classes in the school, teaching kids better communication skills and critical thinking. Whether youre liberal or conservative, I think it is very clear that banning this course is wrong. I urge you to spread the word about this issue.
