Hey guys! I am running for VP Education, a Sabbatical Officer - TopicsExpress

Hey guys! I am running for VP Education, a Sabbatical Officer Role in our Solent Students Union. Please take few minutes of your time to read my manifesto below. Then, vote for me at vote.solentsu.co.uk. To vote for other candidates, go to the elections website and read their manifesto: solentsu.co.uk/voice/elections/ Vote wisely! My Manifesto: Here to listen. Hear for action. I’m running for VP Education because once I’m elected, I will make changes regarding students’ academic issues here at Solent. I will represent students (not forgetting WMA students) on academic matters and I will lead academic-related campaigns. My name is Erliza Rhea Ravidas. I’m in my 3rd year doing Accountancy with Business Foundation. I’m currently a course rep and I use this advantage to get involve with the changes regarding my course, faculty or the university in general. I also chair the Student Council. This gave me the opportunity to gain more knowledge about: students’ wants or needs, and Students’ Union Officers’ importance on taking actions. Additionally, I am a committee member of two societies, SPARKS entrepreneurial Society and Accountancy Society. My Priorities Once I’m Elected: Act on feedback Students need to get the feedback they deserve. Tutors should be enforced to give more precise and detailed feedback. Especially on a mark that is low. A meeting session with the teacher should be encouraged, or else a written detailed feedback is better than less or no feedback at all. Also, taking into consideration, recent VP Education’s ‘Feed Forward Your Feedback’ project. Make SU’s and Solent’s services visible and accessible Students seem to forget or take for granted what the Students’ Union could offer regarding their academic matters, such as, helping you campaign for change regarding your feedback issues. Plus, the services that the university offer is not visible enough to students, such as, the Students’ Information Centre helping you out to get that work experience related to your course. Give more training to course reps More training could be given to course reps, such as, communication skills and leadership skills for them to use to support their course mates, e.g. actions being taken about a complaint regarding a tutor’s teaching. Plus, course rep re-election should be encouraged if they don’t act their role. To consider the importance of: • Encouraging mentors to International Students that need it • Enforcing teaching structures, e.g. overview and summary at the end, on every lecture or lesson • Frequently giving presentations/workshops regarding non-course related information– presentation skills, referencing skills and more • Make timetable better, enforce at least 1 day off a week • Continue 24hours library enforcement, especially during term-time • Retain Star Awards - Student Teaching and Recognition
