Remember, getting a GDPI call from a B School of your choice and not being able to convert is really heartbreaking...hence, lets put our best effort from NOW... Heres a brief on GDPI PROGRAM... SELECTION PROCESS What do THEY look for… Will you succeed at B school? Will you succeed in your career? Will you contribute to the society? B schools look at students as potential managers, Your ability and willingness to learn on campus, How attractive is your personality and track record to recruiters and potential to do well in your career. KEY PARAMETERS Level of knowledge Academic , Non-Academic (General Awareness), Conceptual Understanding of issues, Clarity of thought, Opinions with logical basis Communication Skills Clarity of Idea, Logical structure, Language & Voice Remember those 4 heads: LISTENING, READING, WRITING, SPEAKING Career Planning Awareness of management Careers, Reasons for Career Choice, Link between Strengths & Career Choice Personality - Self Awareness Strengths & Weaknesses, Beliefs, Values, Interests etc X-FACTORS… Confidence Conviction behind what you say, Belief in your abilities Attitude Positive, Optimistic, Practical Body Language Dress code, sitting posture, hand movement, eye contact You surely fail if you.. • Don’t know yourself • Fake • Sound frustrated • Use diplomatic statements • Sight personal examples to defend • Not punctual • Not properly dressed BASIC PROCESS GROUP: GROUP DISCUSSION, CASE STUDY, GROUP TASKS INDIVIDUAL: INTERVIEW, EXTEMPORE, ESSAY WRITING WHAT IS GD A discussion aimed at finding a consensus, solution to given problem/Topic. It is not a Debate, Elocution, or an Election. Logical and structured thinking going towards a conclusion Multiple View points Perspective shift or Paradigm shift Focus on the Micro picture – find solutions for Macro problems Corruption, Unemployment, Education etc HOW DO I GENERATE POINTS KEYWORDS, VIEWPOINTS, PERSPECTIVES (SOCIAL, POLITICAL TECHNOLOGICAL, LEGAL ETC) GROUP DYNAMICS Inter personal skills & Team Spirit (cooperative competition) Maturity and Balance (Disagree agreeably, People +) Attitude (Solution oriented) Practical thinking Leadership: Ability to set direction Getting the group to follow SIMPLE RULES To START is great idea, but…know the risk…set the agenda…if possible, add some spices Enter like a king or a queen, not like a soldier… Don’t take sides – It’s not a debate, nor an argument Never get emotional – Remember the ultimate objective. (to get into a good B school) Get concise – pithy, laconic (lucky if you get appx 10 seconds per turn) Learn as many facts as possible, develop examples to support or counter a point Practice modulating your voice (Hitler used to do it, Churchill too, so can you) SMART TECHNIQUES Attack points, not people… After getting attention slow down and bring down voice but raise it at the slightest sign of opposition Always look for those lulls where little verbal activity is happening Look at the existing speaker and start talking. Very difficult to continue talking when somebody is looking straight at you and talking Ignore the existing speaker and talk to rest. If you manage to wean the rest away, he will shut up on his own Avoid any kind of confrontation with “crazy bull” And here we begin….!!! All the best! :)
