Hey... its December! A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from this morning through Friday evening for much of Southwest Missouri and parts of Southeast Kansas. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Friday evening for all of Northeast Oklahoma, Northwest Arkansas and Barry and McDonald counties in Southwest Missouri. A mix of snow,, sleet and some freezing rain will be moving into the region today and, as temperatures fall by later in the afternoon and tonight, all of that will likely transition to snow. Were not expecting a huge amount of this wintry mix but keep in mind that, with temperatures staying below freezing for an extended period, theres a very good chance that any sleet, snow or freezing drizzle or freezing rain is going to make for slick conditions. Bridges and overpasses will ice up first but no matter where youre driving, be careful for hazardous conditions. Keep your eyes out for black ice. Thats a condition where the roads may look more wet than slick, but in reality, they may very much be slick. Again, temperatures are not expected to be above freezing until some time next week. And speaking of temperatures... Overnight lows are going to be extremely cold over the next few days. Lows early Saturday morning will likely be down in the single digits. Same thing for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. When we wont be seeing single digit overnight lows, theyll be in the teens. Were talking about the potential for some of the coldest temperatures weve seen in the past couple of years. Layer up!
