Hey members, Does anyone remember Bentons old Ball Pond? Perhaps - TopicsExpress

Hey members, Does anyone remember Bentons old Ball Pond? Perhaps Im spelling it incorrectly?? Okay, group members, Saline County & Benton historians, I need your help. Attached (1st photo) is a current Google Earth screen shot of an area of Benton SW of downtown (across the old RR tracks) where S. Market and S. East are located. Sometime during the early 30s through the early 50s there was once a small pond that was later covered and where many Bentonites used this now covered pond for a target practice area. I remember various family members saying this now covered pond was once named Ball Pond. Can someone help me with the correct spelling and location of this now covered pond? If so, can anyone tell me when this pond was created and what year it was covered? In the 60s my family and I target practiced here because this Ball Pond: was fully covered and small pine trees had been planted over this covered pond. Perhaps Im also mispronouncing the name of this covered pond? Perhaps its not Ball Pond but the name sounds similar? Please help. I ll attach a few family photos of my family swimming in the pond as well as playing on this pond when it froze over during the winter. 2nd photo of William Thomas Wilkerson and his wife, Nina on Ball Pond before 1950s. 3rd photo Nina Wilkerson and sister-n-law Gladys Wilkerson Braun at Ball pond during the early 50s. This entire area was once covered with small hand-planted pine trees. The 4th photo is of my uncle Fred F. Wilkerson Jr, playing on the ice covered Ball (sp?) pond. If anyone knows the history of this area, please let me know. Many thanks in advance!
